Clark + Walker Studio : the logo

Some of you are still checking out the new logo, the new colors, and still getting a feel for everything. I thought I would help by explaining some of the new aspects of the company. A couple notes….

The new C+W logo was designed by the team at Elevation. When we originally came to the drawing board with this merger I wanted to keep as much of the Luke Walker Photography design as possible. Elevation worked with me on that branding since the start and I really loved it. It was obviously the best branding of all 3 of our companies and I thought keeping a somewhat consistent look with the new company would also make sense. All of that went out of the window though as soon as the E team got their input. They came up with a couple directions for us and the first one was exactly what I wanted. The same colors, a similar logo and collateral style, and just the same type of feel. Perfect! Then they hit me with their vision of where we could take Clark + Walker and my previous vision was out of the window. It’s exactly the reason why I find it necessary to bring in someone as talented as Elevation when changing over my entire company. Just like my brides know to talk to me about the timeline of their wedding because I’m really good at helping with that, I know to work with a team on something like this because they are really good at what they do too. It all started of course with the logo

We decided to bring the + into the logo to minimize confusion. We were afraid of people thinking there was one singular person named “Clark Walker” and would be asking for him. By bringing in the + we were able to dispel that right away and make sure we were communicating that we are a studio with multiple people available.

In addition to that communication, we also loved how we could play with the + because it gave us so much opportunity. In addition to the Clark + Walker, we also now shoot photo + video. Once we started down that avenue it was easy to see how this was the route to go. Here is an example of one of the ways we’ve used the plus signs in our branding:

For the color scheme I had originally wanted the dark red with the gray of Luke Walker Photography, but Alisha felt it was too masculine and we needed something with a lighter feel. Elevation immediately went with the yellow and pushed and pushed me to do it. I think Gary at one point was blackmailing me to go with the yellow. Once we started pushing forward with the yellow though it was one of those decisions that you think “duh!” afterwards. I absolutely love it and wouldn’t want it any other way now. I love the yellow and I love the feel it brings to our branding.

As you might have noticed on our WEBSITE, BLOG, and PROOFS sites… our logo is often times cut off on the bottom. It meshes with our print collateral. Here is an example with the design of our business cards (the gray around the card just lets you know where it ends with the design)-

I’ll be doing a spotlight on the new website, blog, our new DVD media, and other goodies here in the next couple of days. One thing to remember about this new blog – it is now updated by 3 of us instead of just one person so the content will be constantly updated on a very regular basis. Thanks for checking everything out!
